New Orleans native and Oakland's own "Queen of New Orleans music," Michelle Jacques, along with distinguished vocalists, Rhonda Crane, Jay Lamont, Tammi Brown, and Bryan Dyer, perform music that is vibrant and alive – from Creole, jazz, funk, gospel, R&B and Zydeco, to the chants and stirring rhythms of Mardi Gras Indians. Juke Joint will take you on a raucous ride through this spicy, sweet, and intoxicating stewpot of musical "gumbo," from Saturday night at the juke joint to worship on Sunday morning, Big Easy style!

The Bay Area's own CHELLE'S JUKE JOINT acappella quintet, using just their voices, will take you on a fun filled journey a cappella style, to the pulsating sounds of New Orleans from the Blues and Jazz of Bourbon Street, to Sunday morning church service, to the Southern Louisiana sound of Swamp Pop and then you will strut your stuff, parading with the Mardi Gras Indians.
We are extremely excited and honored that the spectacular Unique Derique will be opening Chelle's Juke Joint onstage at The Freight!
Unique Derique is internationally known for his unique blend of physical comedy and Hambone body percussion. Unique Derique has appeared twice in New York performing Hambone on Broadway and has performed with such entertainers as Bobby McFerrin, The Temptations, Lou Rawls, and Sammy Davis Jr. His television credits include performing on It's Showtime at the Apollo, 30 Seconds To Fame, the Disney Channel, and on Sabodo Gigante.
